Daniels pocket watch
This watch (the picture shows the back) was
made by a man called George Daniels in 1976. Mr Daniels is one of
the most famous mechanical watchmakers in the world today and his
watches are highly sought-after. The watch is fitted with a unique
escapement developed by George Daniels himself.
Although the
Daniels' escapement uses new technology to make it more
accurate, it still essentially works in the same way as other time
pieces: a controller allows power to be transmitted (escape) from
the spring at a steady rate. If you look at the picture you can
clearly see the balance wheel (the controller). This swings back
and forth when the watch is running and does the same job as the
pendulum in the long case clock and even the table in the rolling
ball clock.
