Sport in ancient Greece

Sports were an important and popular part of life in ancient Greece. The Olympic games - still the world's main sports festival - started some three thousand years ago in ancient Greece.

In this tour you can find out about the Olympics, as well as other ancient Greek sporting festivals. We also look at some individual events. Some of these you will recognise - you may even have competed in them yourself. But other stranger competitions no longer exist.
