Buried Treasure

The words 'buried treasure' might make you think of heaps of gold and silver coins and jewels, spilling out of a wooden chest. Some of the finds shown on this tour do look like this, but in fact treasure comes in all shapes and sizes - it does not have to be silver or gold. 'Treasure' really means anything that is historically valuable, and not just in terms of money.

Objects can be treasure because they tell us about history, because of the fantastic stories attached to them, or because they have special meaning for their owners.

Follow this tour to discover some of the most spectacular finds ever made in Britain.
