Elizabeth II

This five pound coin has been made by the Royal Mint to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of Elizabeth II, who became the Queen in 1952. The lively portrait of the Queen has been specially done for the coin. On the other side of the coin is the Queen riding a horse. The writing says 'AMOR POPULI PRAESIDIUM REG' which means 'The love of the people is the Queen's protection'.

For parents

In the history of the United Kingdom only George III (reigned 1760-1820) and Victoria (reigned 1837-1901) have celebrated a Golden Jubilee and have reigned for longer than the present Queen. Commemorative medals were produced for George III's Golden Jubilee and Victoria's Golden and Diamond Jubilee. The £5 coin is available as a base metal coin for circulation and in a sterling silver version for collectors.
