Excavation August 2011
In spring 2011 piling commenced on site. Large piling rigs, weighing in excess of 100 tonnes and reaching a height of nearly 30 metres, cored boreholes around the perimeter of the site to a depth of approximately 20 metres. The boreholes were reinforced and filled with concrete, creating a continuous piled wall (or secant wall), which formed the structural basement box of the new Centre. Piling was complete in the summer of 2011. If placed end to end, the piles would reach 12000m.
