What just happened?

To celebrate Vikings Live, we have replaced our Roman alphabet with the runic alphabet used by the Vikings, the Scandinavian ‘Younger Futhark’. The ‘Younger Futhark’ has only 16 letters, so we have used some of the runic letters more than once or combined two runes for one Roman letter.

About 15,000 coins in seven weeks

Through timelapse photography, follow the micro-excavation - in the conservation labs at the British Museum - of the Beau Street Hoard, a remarkable find of about 15,000 Roman coins unearthed during building works in the City of Bath in 2007.
