Volunteer Opportunities

Amara West post-excavation volunteering

Research at Amara West (http://www.britishmuseum.org/amarawest) seeks to investigate aspects of life in Egyptian Kush of the New Kingdom, with a focus on the entanglement of Egyptian and Nubian cultures, health and disease, the fabric of domestic life in an urban setting and the changing environmental context. On-going excavation and study seasons focus upon houses within the ancient town, burials in two adjacent cemeteries and the related finds.

Volunteers are sought to assist the Amara West Project team with documentation, including digitisation, editing and database work, as well as illustrations and preparation for publications (digital and hard copy). Applicants should have a demonstrable interest in Egyptology and/or archaeology.

Volunteers are sought for the following periods, for at least one consecutive month:

  • May 2018
  • June 2018
  • July 2018
  • August 2018
  • October 2018
