Ancient Greeks: Athletes, Warriors and Heroes
Tour dates: 31 March 2007 – 4 May 2009
Tour ended
The exhibition featured highlights from the British Museum’s collections around the theme of competition in the Ancient Greek world: from sporting events such as the Olympics, to politics, drama, music and warfare. It formed one of the largest selections of Greek artefacts ever loaned by the British Museum.
It was inspired by the Museum's Ancient Greece website, an online resource for teachers, pupils, families and all who are interested in the subject.
The exhibition promoted use of the website and enriched the study of Greece in the classroom by supporting and enhancing the confidence and expertise of teachers. Learning resources and programmes that complemented the exhibition will continue to be used by the host venues.
Ancient Greeks: Athletes, Warriors and Heroes was seen by almost 150,000 visitors including more than 10,000 pupils.
The exhibition was funded through the DCMS/DCFS National/Regional Museum Partnerships Education Programme 2008-09 and the generosity of the Dorset Foundation.
