Staff exchanges to the UK
The World Collections Programme funds a number of short-term staff exchanges and research visits to the UK for international museum professionals. Listed are a series of recent staff exchanges.
Hassen Kawo, lecturer from Addis Ababa University
Islam in Ethiopia Project
Based at the British Library
Hassen Kawo, a lecturer from Addis Ababa University received funding from the World Collections Programme to undertake a month-long research placement to identify the development of Islam in Ethiopia.
Based at the British Library, Hassen undertook further research at the London School of Economics and SOAS and then consulted the Arabic collections at Oxford and Cambridge universities. He gave a presentation on his preliminary findings to World Collections Programme partners and is currently writing a paper on his research.
Prachee Sathe, junior designer from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya, Mumbai (CSMVS)
Based at the Victoria and Albert Museum
Prachee Sathe, a designer from CSMVS, was based at the Victoria and Albert Museum for her four-week visit to the UK. She also travelled to other museums in London and around the UK.
Prachee was particularly looking at how museums in the UK provide information to their visitors - from exhibition panels to publicity material and book publications.
Muthoni Thangwa, development manager from National Museums of Kenya
Based at the British Museum
Muthoni Thangwa, development manager at the National Museums of Kenya, went on a study tour to the British Museum, Natural History Museum, British Library and Royal Botanical Gardens (Kew).
Muthoni was particularly looking at the development and commercial departments at these four institutions to enhance her knowledge and experience in these areas.
