Key event: Four-day seminar in Damascus

The seminar at Damascus
In January 2009, a four-day museum management seminar was held in Damascus with curators, museum directors and museum educators from Syria, Jordan, Lebanon and Palestine.

What was discussed?
The strategic management, learning programmes, interpretation, visitor research, outreach, partnerships, volunteers and the web were all discussed.

These prompted lively debate, and were enhanced by site visits to museums in Damascus including the National Museum, the Arab Epigraphy Museum, the Museum of Arab Medicine and Sciences and the V&A Ceramics exhibition in the Khan Assad Pasha.

Second seminar
A second seminar was held in Istanbul to coincide with the World Ceramics exhibition at the Pera Museum in late May 2009.
