What just happened?

To celebrate Vikings Live, we have replaced our Roman alphabet with the runic alphabet used by the Vikings, the Scandinavian ‘Younger Futhark’. The ‘Younger Futhark’ has only 16 letters, so we have used some of the runic letters more than once or combined two runes for one Roman letter.

For an excellent introduction to runes, we recommend Martin Findell’s book published by British Museum Press.

Consult the curators

The Museum's curators are experts in their fields and can give advice, insight and information.

A consultation with a curator is subject to the curator’s availability and whether they feel comfortable with the topic.
 

Arrange a consultation

Consultations will be charged at £100 (+ VAT) per hour. Applications to film a curator will be dealt with case by case, and the cost will be included in the standard fees.
