What just happened?

To celebrate Vikings Live, we have replaced our Roman alphabet with the runic alphabet used by the Vikings, the Scandinavian ‘Younger Futhark’. The ‘Younger Futhark’ has only 16 letters, so we have used some of the runic letters more than once or combined two runes for one Roman letter.

Dame Liz Forgan DBE

Dame Liz Forgan was appointed to the British Museum board in October 2008 and reappointed for a second four year term in October 2012.

Liz Forgan was formerly Managing Director of BBC Radio. Following an early career in journalism, she moved to television with the start of Channel 4 where she became Director of Programmes at Channel 4. She joined the BBC in 1993. 

She is a former Chair of the Churches Conservation Trust and also former Trustee of the Phoenix Trust. She is the Chair of the Scott Trust, a board member of the Conservatoire for Dance and Drama and a non-executive board member of the Department for Culture, Media and Sport.

Liz Forgan was Chair of the National Heritage Memorial Fund and the Heritage Lottery Fund between April 2001 and September 2008. 

From February 2009 she was appointed as Chair of the Arts Council England and will be leaving that post in January 2013.
