Dame Nemat (Minouche) Shafik

Dame Nemat (Minouche) Shafik was appointed to the British Museum board in January 2016 for a four year term.

Dame Nemat (Minouche) Shafik is Deputy Governor, Markets and Banking, at the Bank of England. She was previously Deputy Managing Director of the iMF, overseeing work on countries in Europe and the Middle East and responsible for the iMF's human resources and administrative budget. She was Permanent Secretary of the Department for Internationa! Development (DFID) from March 2008 to March 2011.

Prior to going to DFID in 2004, Nemat was the youngest ever Vice President at the World Bank. She is also a Governor of the National Institute for Economic and Social Research. She has held a number of academic appointments at the Wharton Business School, University of Pennsylvania and the Economics Department at Georgetown University. Nemat has a BA in Economics and Politics from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, an MSc in Economics from the London School of Economics, a DPhil in Economics from St. Antonys College, Oxford University, and honorary doctorates from the universities of Warwick and Reading. She was awarded a DBE in the 2015 Birthday Honours List.
