What just happened?

To celebrate Vikings Live, we have replaced our Roman alphabet with the runic alphabet used by the Vikings, the Scandinavian ‘Younger Futhark’. The ‘Younger Futhark’ has only 16 letters, so we have used some of the runic letters more than once or combined two runes for one Roman letter.

For an excellent introduction to runes, we recommend Martin Findell’s book published by British Museum Press.

The British Museum Company is looking to recruit an Ecommerce Manager who will set and implement the global strategy for the development and management of the online business with the aim of optimizing the online revenue and profit. This is an exciting opportunity for someone looking for a managerial role within a fast paced retail environment.

As eCommerce Manager you will take responsibility for the development and performance of the online business and will be required to work closely with key internal and external stakeholders. You will also take ownership for the development and execution of the online marketing activities to drive the business. The post holder will ensure that there is a constant update of new technologies and strategies within the eCommerce field to ensure that the brand remains at the forefront of online within the Museum arena.

The ideal candidate will be educated to degree level (or equivalent) and have demonstrable managerial level experience within eCommerce. You will also be target driven and be proficient in the use of eCommerce and web based applications. This is a great opportunity for a candidate to evolve in one of the most prestigious cultural institutions in the world while managing the growth of our commercial site.
