The British Museum Company is recruiting for a Stock Control Assistant to join the Retail department and ensure the efficient and professional running of the stock rooms in accordance with the systems and procedures laid down by BMCo. The post-holder will contribute to the success and smooth running of the shops by providing the highest standard of service to the customer.

Key areas of responsibility:

  • To check off all deliveries when they arrive in the stock rooms in an efficient and timely manner and liaise with DHL (and other delivery companies) as necessary.
  • To unpack all deliveries, ensuring all stock is safely stored and maintaining an accurate knowledge of stock and locations.
  • To ensure stock is rotated on a regular basis and to supply stock to the shops on a daily basis.
  • To ensure all filing is kept up-to-date and in good order and that invoices are booked on to the system accurately.
  • To follow all security procedures to ensure a high level of security is maintained at all times.
  • To assist with stocktakes; both the prepping and the counting.

BM Images Collections Picture Researcher

The British Museum Company’s image licensing business, BM Images, is seeking a Collections Picture Researcher who will take responsibility for image research and to work on exciting collections development for BM Images. The successful applicant will have a creative flair and demonstrate their ability to create image themes, produce newsletters targeted to specific sectors and carry out research support for the Account Managers.

Key areas of responsibility:

  • Cataloguing, cropping and uploading images to the BM Images website according to the collections development strategy (improving the site for the Account Managers and our clients).
  • Research support for the Account Managers.
  • Image research, upload and writing blurb for the monthly newsletter mailings.
  • Image quality checking, image upload and cataloguing on demand for the Account Managers, as a result of particular requests and new photography.
  • Creating focused newsletters and selections targeted to a specific sector.
  • Releasing images and ordering new photography and writing captions for BM Images’ authorized agents and other partners.

Person Specification:

The ideal candidate will be educated to degree level (or equivalent). The successful post holder will have previous demonstrable experience in using a variety of software, including Excel and Photoshop and must have an awareness and interest in image database management systems. Understanding of copyright law and licensing issues is essential to the role as is strong organization skills and the ability to prioritise.
