Dr Williams is now developing a number of research projects on aspects of the British Museum collection and its history. His main areas of interest are Greek pottery (especially Athenian), Greek jewellery, Lord Elgin, and the archaeology of Ephesos in Turkey, Aphaia on Aigina in Greece, and Naukratis in Egypt.

Dr Williams joined the Museum in 1979. He was Keeper of Greek and Roman Antiquities from 1993 and took up his new role as Research Keeper in December 2007.
