Terms and conditions

1. Information on how to enter forms part of the terms and conditions of entry. Participants signing up to the British Museum’s email newsletter by filling out the A5 entry form onsite, What’s On tear off slip or subscribing online between the dates of 6 June and 26 October 2008 24.00 (GMT) are eligible. Subscribers will be required to provide their email address to complete their entry. Illegible, incomplete or incomprehensible entries will be ineligible. No purchase is needed to enter this competition.

2. Entry is open to all permanent residents and non-residents of the United Kingdom over the age of 16 years.

3. The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into. Prizes cannot be transferred. Prizes cannot be redeemed for cash.

4. The draw for the winner will take place on Friday 7 November 2008 at 12.00 (GMT) at the British Museum. If the winner is under the age of 18 years, the prize will be awarded to their parent or legal guardian.

5. The promoter reserves the right to request winners to provide proof of identity and proof of residency at the nominated prize delivery address. Identification considered suitable for verification is at the discretion of the promoter.

6. The promoter reserves the right to refuse to allow a winner to take part in any or all aspects of the prize, if the promoter determines, in its absolute discretion, that a winner is not in the mental or physical condition necessary to be able to safely participate in the prize. It is a condition of accepting the prize that the winner may be required to sign a legal release in a form determined by the promoter in its absolute discretion.

7. If for any reason this promotion is not capable of running as planned, including due to tampering, unauthorised intervention, fraud or any other causes beyond the control of the promoter, which corrupt or affect the administration security, fairness or integrity or proper conduct of this promotion, the promoter reserves the right in its sole discretion to disqualify any individual who tampers with the entry process.

8. Employees of the British Museum, Hadrian's Wall Heritage Ltd, their immediate families, their agencies and companies associated with the promotion are ineligible to enter.

9. The winner will be notified by email. If the winner does not claim the prize within the two weeks of the email being sent, they will forfeit the prize and a new winner will be drawn.

10. The promoter shall not be liable for any loss or damage whatsoever which is suffered (including but not limited to direct or consequential loss) or for any personal injury suffered or sustained in connection with any prize/s, except for any liability which cannot be excluded by law.

11. Prize is as follows:

  • Two nights accommodation for two people at a luxury Bed & Breakfast in Hadrian’s Wall Country up to the value to £200
  • *Free car hire up to the value of £90 if the winner is a full holder of a drivers license for over 5 years and aged 25 years +
  • Two passes allowing free access to the main forts and museums along the Wall up to the value of £20
  • Dinner for two at a celebrated restaurant up to the value of £70
  • Hamper of Hadrian's Wall locally produced food and drink up to the value of £50
  • Free guided day trip of the Wall up to the value of £150
  • A pass to surrounding English Heritage venues up to the value of £20

Travel must be completed by 31 May 2009. Travel is not permitted during 24 December 2008 – 3 January 2009. All elements of the prize are subject to availability. All travel is subject to the Terms and Conditions of Hadrian’s Wall Heritage Limited and the prize winner must complete and sign a ‘booking form’ to state that they agree with these conditions. The prize winner is responsible for arranging their own their travel to the region, travel insurance, passports and visas if required.

12. In the event that for any reason whatsoever a winner does not take an element of the prize at the time stipulated by the promoter then that element of the prize will be forfeited by the winner and cash will not be awarded in lieu of that element of the prize.
